Loukums (low KOOMS) were popularized sometime in the late 1700s and brought to Britain via France in the mid-19th Century under the name "Turkish Delight".
This wonderful confectionery is made by combining boiled sugar and pure starch with lemon extract and mixing them together. Confectioner's sugar is added later for texture and flavor. Other ingredients, such as mixed nuts and fruit, can also be added to change the flavor of the turkish delight.
A very unique treat that is difficult to find in North America.
